RECOVERY READY FAMILIES
RECOVERY READY FAMILIES
When addiction touches a family, everyone feels the impact. Our new guide, developed with the National Council For Mental Wellbeing recognizes that families aren't just affected by substance use disorder (SUD),they're essential to recovery.
SUD is often called a family disease because it reaches far beyond the individual. It affects daily life, emotional health, roles and relationships. Families absorb the uncertainty, carry the fear and often feel powerless to stop what is unfolding. At the same time, families hold incredible potential for support, stability and change. That is why they are essential in prevention, in treatment and recovery, and in the long process of rebuilding. When families are informed, prepared and supported, they become a powerful force to change the course of addiction.
A FAMILY GUIDE TO MARIJUANA & FENTANYL
Across the United States, Americans are facing an alarming and evolving threat as fentanyl, the nation's deadliest synthetic opioid, infiltrates nearly every corner of the illicit drug market, including marijuana. While confirmed cases of fentanyl-laced cannabis are relatively limited and often result from cross-contamination rather than deliberate adulteration, the uncertainty surrounding this danger underscores a broader national crisis: an unpredictable drug supply, widespread misinformation, and a lack of reliable testing and reporting.
Families are left anxious and unprepared, unsure of what is safe or how to protect their loved ones. This guide, a collaboration between Facing Fentanyl and Achieve Greatness, was created to build awareness around the dangers of fentanyl-laced marijuana and to provide families with clear, evidence-based information. By bridging the gap between fear and fact, it empowers communities to recognize warning signs, engage in honest conversations, and take proactive steps to prevent tragedy in an era where one mistake can cost a life.

SOCIAL MEDIA DRUG RISKS & FENTANYL DANGERS
CONSIDERING AN ONLINE PHARMACY?
SOCIAL MEDIA HARMS
Today's drug marketplace has moved online. Platforms like Snapchat are frequently used to connect buyers and sellers through private messages, disappearing content, and coded symbols. This creates a dangerous environment where youth can unknowingly access substances that may be contaminated with fentanyl. Understanding how these platforms are used is a key step in prevention. Find out more at the SOCIAL MEDIA VICTIMS LAW CENTER.
CONSIDERING AN ONLINE PHARMACY?
Many online pharmacies are not legitimate, putting consumers at serious risk of receiving unsafe or counterfeit medications. If you or someone you know is considering buying prescription drugs online, it's critical to use trusted sources. Visit FDA's BeSafeRx campaign to learn how to find safe, legitimate options.
VULNERABILITY TO EXPLOITATION
Substance use can increase vulnerability to exploitation, including sex trafficking and coercion. Individuals struggling with addiction-especially youth-may be targeted, manipulated, or controlled by those seeking to take advantage of their circumstances. In some cases, drugs are used as a means of control or dependency, making it harder for individuals to seek help or leave unsafe situations.
Understanding these risks is an important part of prevention. By raising awareness, we can help protect individuals, recognize warning signs, and support those who may be at risk. Call The National Human Trafficking Hotline for more help 1-888-373-7888.
RECOVERING OUT LOUD
The Recovery Community has played a large part in educating others and spreading prevention about the effects of dangerous drugs. Recovering out loud and sharing our lived experience can prevent others from making deadly choices. At Facing Fentanyl, families impacted by fentanyl poisoning and the recovery community are walking together and becoming one voice for prevention. Connect with our Recovery Outreach Director, Michael Fiore on social media.
